The World’s Best Bagger

February 11th, 2008 · 4 Comments

The 2008 International Best Bagger is one of our very own. Erika Jensen, a bagger at a Macey’s super market in West Jordan, recently returned from Las Vegas after earning the title of “World Champion Bagger.”

Competitors were judged not only on how fast they could bag, but also weight distribution of the bags and dress and appearance. Erika’s sister Emily won the competition three years ago.

In addition to trophies, Erika was given a monetary prize of $2,000 to sweeten her big win. Congratulations to Erika!

So, they were judged on dress and appearance? Were they supposed to dress up in business casual or did it depend on the vibe the baggers wanted to give the judges? Maybe they dressed like frenzied homemakers who had two screaming kids in the cart. I don’t know about you, but that would make me bag faster. It would be good practice. 2 grand? Nice! Maybe I should look into the bagging market!

World Champion Bagger? They actually have a competition for that? If more high school kids knew they could become a world champion at their job, maybe they’d actually get a job.
