KSL reports that a man from Grantsville is due in court after he appealed a ruling in March that would send him to jail. The crime? Stealing Mayor Byron Anderson’s campaign sign.
Dennis McBride was convicted and sentenced to six months in jail and nine months probation thereafter.
Is it just me or does that seem a little extreme? I am not condoning what this man did, but shouldn’t we practice discretion and logicality when it comes to an already jammed justice system? And shouldn’t that limited jail space be used for more serious offenders?
Maybe he is nothing more than a citizen disgruntled and fed up with political shannigans. Aren’t we all? Slap him with a fine or something. Just another example of Utah’s nonsensical justice system, I suppose.
