Ever heard of mutton busting? You probably have if you happen to be a native Utahn or are originally from the west where cowboys first debuted, but a number of out-of-staters have not, including yours truly. That is until a co-worker of mine exposed me to the hilarious world of mutton busting, a staple in most rodeos.

Mutton Busting alone was enough to get me intrigued and I soon learned about bareback riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing, all foreign concepts to this east coast yankee girl. The only concept I was already familiar with was bullriding…mechanical, that is. With rodeo season now in full swing, I will soon be attending my very first rodeo and I can hardly wait!

Now don’t be jealous about my upcoming rodeo initiation, there are plenty of rodeos throughout Utah you can attend. And all you haters that think such an absurd form of entertainment is only hicks, don’t be so quick to judge. The rodeo has something for everyone (or so I’ve heard). Come see all the action for yourself; the County Fairgrounds schedule lists rodeos throughout the state so everyone can enjoy this popular western pastime. Yee Hah!
