MTV is trying to get in on the apparently booming business of filming musicals in Utah. Following the footsteps of the Disney’s “High School Musical”, MTV will be filming a new musical at the Provo Towne Centre. “The American Mall” is the story of a young girl whose mom owns a music store at the mall. This girl is trying to save the store from destruction…by singing and dancing?
The weirdest thing about the whole thing: It is targeting an audience in the mid-twenties. Strange, isn’t it? Apparently, this show isn’t for the kiddies because the characters will be a little more scantly clad than anyone would be likely to see on the Disney Channel.
Why do you think there is all this fascination with Utah and musicals?

Uhhh…targeting 20-somethings? Seriously? I guess it depends on the music they’re going to be singing…and I can’t imagine some girl going around singing her version of Low by Flo Rida…

Scantily clad Utah girls singing and dancing? Count me in MTV. Next they could try playing some actual music videos.

It’s probably just much cheaper to film somewhere like Utah.
