Up 31% already this year, pet adoption is becoming the best way to own a new pet in Utah. The benefit of adopting a pet is that you can work with agencies that specialize in specific breeds and can give you a more personal experience with better information and assistance.
Although the requirements for pet adoptions are severely more lax than those for human adoption, several agencies have strict requirements for their patrons. Often, the new family will be given several days with the new pet, with a contingency that it can be returned if it’s discovered to be unsuitable for the family.
The process is not as easy as getting an animal through an ad in the paper, but shelters typically offer services and vaccinations as reasonable rates for adopted animals.

Even if the pet agency is “lax’ sometimes they go overboard… I was required to write a personal family recommendation, for a dog that a family we know, wanted to adopt.
We liked the family, but the dog was nothing special and I just thought it was so nice that this family was giving a homeless dog a place to call home!
