A Pleasant Grove teenager may be headed for the slammer. The teenager (whose name was not released) was arrested after streaking during the Pleasant Grove High School homecoming pageant (via KSL).
If the teen is convicted of the charges – lewdness in the presence of a minor – he may have to register as a sex offender. Mind you, the charge is only a misdemeanor.
A comment left on the KSL message board read “…Stay away from our football games and our children. You may think that streaking is hilarious, and you would be right. But just because it is hilarious doesn’t mean we can’t ruin your life by transforming you into a sex offender. Let this be a lesson to all you prankster pervs out there in Utah County. We will not be streaked upon!!!”
And many of the comments read much like this one. Ruining your life by transforming you into a sex offender? Are you serious? And did she actually admit that it was funny? I agree that what he did was wrong…but it was a stupid, thoughtless, juvenile prank! He should be punished fairly for his actions but not like that. Registering this young man as a sex offender would cause much more lasting damage and pain to him than any of the children that may have seen his naked bum! Utah needs to be more concerned about “real” predators such as this man…and this man…and this man.

That is so lame! The kid pulled a stupid prank, but it’s certainly not something he should have to register for! Utah lawmakers need to wake up. The sex offender registry is for sexual predators, not streakers. By having every person register for every minor offense, that takes away from the purpose of the registry – informing the public about DANGEROUS sex offenders! Gimme a break!
