Disbanding the Police Force

February 19th, 2008 · 3 Comments

South Salt Lake residents are asking the city council to look into disbanding their local police force. Residents are apparently nervous about the increasing crime rate. One resident, actually it was the guy who started all of this hullabaloo (Goldhardt), made this comment, “There is a group of us wanting some change in the city. (The police department) needs more help. The crime rate has gone up.” So instead of increasing the police force with the help they need, they have decided that they want to just pay the Sheriff’s office to take on police duties. They think this is a great idea because it will save them money and they can use the SWAT forces if they need to. All for less money! Goldhardt also said, “By going to the county, not only do we get a better service, we pay less for it. They offer better service at a fraction of the cost.” Wow, these people are crazy. What a bunch of cheap-o-s. Like it is really practical to have the SWAT team patrolling the streets to make sure no one is slicing someone else’s tires. I do believe they just might have other things to do; you know, their specific job duties. It just all seems insane to me that they would put all those police officers out of work because they can save money by having a contract through the Sheriff’s Department.

Anyone who doesn’t think that South Salt Lake needs a SWAT team hasn’t spent much time in a Quik-E-Mart down there.
