Curt Bramble – Professional Pizza Eater

So Curt Bramble, the Majority Leader of the Utah Senate, ordered a pizza from a local pizza joint and didn’t understand their policy on not taking personal checks – no big deal, right?

Well, it wouldn’t have been if Curt hadn’t been so difficult about it, flaunted his title and money (he’s a public servant – what a waste) and happened to have flipped out on a pizza delivery girl who blogs.

Utah Jessica’s Law

Utah legislators are trying to pass a bill in Utah based on Jessica’s Law, which has already been passed in numerous states throughout the country. The bill proposes stiff mandatory minimum sentences for sex predators: “a minimum of 25 years to life for a first time conviction of rape of a child, object rape of a child, or sodomy upon a child.”

While the law obviously has nothing but good intentions to protect the children of Utah from predators, some legislators warn against overreacting based on on empathetic emotions evoked by such a heartbreaking situation. They warn that there are potentially logistical and costly fiscal ramifications to consider.

Utah Gossip is in full support of Jessica’s Law and would encourage you to contact members of the Utah Legislative Branch if you are too.

It’s Official

Mitt Romney has officially announced the drop of his presidential bid today in a speech at a conservative convention in Washington. Romney said he made the decision because he feels if were to prolong his campaign, it would hurt the Republican party and McCain’s ability to defeat the Democratic opponent in the upcoming general election.

No doubt there are hearts heavy with disappointment and defeat all over Utah (Romney won Utah’s primary by nearly 90%).

Super Tuesday

This being Utah’s first Super Tuesday, record numbers of Utah voters are expected to take part in today’s primary. And many feel, for the first time in years, that their vote will actually count for something. Utah’s Primary offers a large portion of the delegates needed to win the nomination in each party.

Among the Republicans, it’s winner takes all and Mitt Romney remains the Republican favorite throughout the state (well, duh), with support from the majority of the state’s political leaders. However, John McCain is making a final stand (he even appeared on KSL news this morning) and gained the endorsement of Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr.

The Democrats could walk away with some delegates as long as they get at least 15% of the vote. Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have heavily campaigned in the Beehive state, running ads on both TV and the radio.

There has never been a more important and historical race for party nominations, one in which young people are so involved. So get out there and get your vote on!
