Recently we were referred to a service known as ITEX by another local Utah company. The concept is pretty simple - companies trade services with one another using virtual ITEX dollars as opposed to spending real cash - a good boost for a small business owner looking to improve cash flow.

After signing up, however, we realized that the hardest part of joining ITEX is not accruing virtual dollars, but finding good ways to spend them. If you want to travel or do other personal things with your ITEX dollars you will find some good deals, but spending the money on things that a business actually needs can be difficult.

We were really glad to hear the other day that somebody was willing to give us a quote through ITEX on a new phone system, which would have been great.

After receiving a response from Barb Selvig (click to read another person’s opinion), however, we were very disappointed. She was extremely rude and obviously didn’t know anything about sales. She wanted us to scam AT&T out of some free work so that she could do the least work possible to make a sale - obviously we didn’t feel good about this.

We thought it would be helpful to warn other Utah companies (or anybody for that matter) not to do business with Barb Selvig. Had we not found an online review of her we may have made the terrible mistake of actually working with her.

As a side note, this is not typical behavior for Utah business people - we have many intelligent, ethical business owners in Utah so don’t let a few bad apples like Barb sour you too much
